QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • what are the riser rings for?

These allow you to do natural/live edges on turnings.  It keeps the edges from sliding under the buttons of the Longworth chuck.

  • Do I need a chuck to mount the longworth?

Yes.  You will need a four jaw chuck.

  • Will the Longworth system work with a Nova G3 chuck dovetailed jaws?

    16" and under will work.

  • I have a 20" Longworth System that has been working great for 5 -7 years. Recently, the black and red plates no longer glide smoothly. What can I use to lubricate? If I need to take them apart, is the screw in the center right tight and left loose or is it reverse threads?

You can take it apart and clean it as needed. The threads are standard right hand and mineral oil is best for cleaning but just wiping it out will probably take care of your problem without any cleaning products.

  • I have a Rikon mini lathe Model 70-050VS that has a 12 inch max capacity . Can I use the 12 inch chuck on this Lathe?

Yes, as long as it has a gap in the ways.

  • Hi, What size 4-jaw chuck do I need on my lathe to mount the Longworth please?

Up to 16", the gripping disc is 2-1/4".  For the 20" and above, the disc is 4-1/4".

Works well and easy to set up

It works seamlessly with my existing chuck system. Easy to set up and take down. It is definitely only suitable for light work and sanding at low rpm’s. But it is great for shaping the foot of your bowl.
